Railbird
Responsive

Railbird by Founder Nam Do, envisioned to be a cutting-edge web application uniquely combining a forum & community space for poker enthusiasts. As a freelance project, I was tasked with designing a platform that transcends traditional social forums, offering real-time collaboration, in-depth hand reviews, and contextual learning for players at all skill levels.

About the Project

Railbird is a community-driven, modern poker learning platform that provides real-time collaboration, effortless hand reviews, and contextual study for poker players of all levels or anyone who is interested in the game.

The platform is not just a social forum or any other subscription site, but rather a strong community equipped with the right tools and materials that continuously get improved by the inputs of its own users.

The Challenge

Interface
The majority of sites associated with strategic sports betting games often has dark interfaces with confusing, cluttered and outdated design elements. Our client requests this platform to be different from those, with a more modern, straightforward look while still having a splash of fun color in order to make the user learning experience as effective as possible.

Functions
Railbird is not merely a news website, a social network platform, a random place to store and organize your study notes, or an AI tool used to analyze the data of poker games. It is all of the above features combined, making it a complex web app with complex app flows.

The Process
Being a non-poker-player, I had deeply dived in to the poker world and worked through dozens of design concepts to successfully delivered a satisfying solution and a great looking product that works on both desktop and mobile as showcase below.

Game Collection
& Analyzer

Incorporate built-in charts/range and even a poker table to help users visualize their study.
Users share and review their games in animated format, then get feedback from the community on the exact part of the hand they need to improve on
Per input, users simply have to drag & drop their data from from familiar solver tools and poker sites (.csv or .txt files) then Railbird will take care of the rest.
We also make all that complex visual content responsive across all devices for better user access.
Game data will be visualized as cards, charts or table. Users can also easily filter for spots they want to get better at and learn from others.
Railbird users can continue their learning on any devices anywhere with all the same functionality of the desktop version.
The Hand Collections, where multiple games are uploaded per user, are listed as table view for easier navigation.

Community
Article Feed

Clean and simple design allows users to find all the content they interest in an instant, everything from in-depth analysis of a tough ICM spot, to a casual self-note.
Simple reading and uploading interfaces reduce loading speed and helps accelerate user habits of creating and sharing.
Articles are sorted into categories and tags letting users find similar topics at ease.
Voting & filtering functionality allows users to customize their main page according to their own preferences & interests.
There are several styles of content display such as quote block, Q&A accordion... help break up long text and improve readability.
Users are able to keep their notes private, share only with their friends or share with the whole community as articles within a few clicks.

Social Network
For Players

Easy access to users' own social circle or to the whole community.
Built-in chat function allows users to connect, share learning files with each others, or just casually chatting during their busy days.
Individual chat or group studying are all possible on Railbird.
Users learn more about each other through their profile page, with the ability to connect via "Follow" or "Message" function, or both.
Color tones and styles on mobile are consistent and simple to use across the entire site.
Choosing what personal information to share with the community and what not to is all up to our users.
